Learn About Elevators

Educated buyers make intelligent decisions.

Why Elevator Education matters

Elevator Boutique™ has delivered and installed thousands of home elevators across premium residential projects over the past three decades.

When the right system is selected, the outcome is exactly as it should be. Seamless, reliable, and built to last.

That is the difference.

To understand it properly, we invite you to visit our showroom and experience the systems firsthand.

Elevator Boutique™ operates at a level that is not easily replicated. Often imitated, never matched.

If we are not the right fit for your project, we will say so. Our focus is not on competing for every project, but on delivering the right outcome, every time.

How to vet potential Suppliers

Before committing to any elevator provider, we strongly recommend visiting their showroom or place of operation.

Websites can present a polished version of reality. What matters is what exists beyond the screen.

Experience the product in person. Assess the quality. Understand how the system operates. And meet the team responsible for delivering it.

At this level, decisions should be made with certainty, not assumption.

Elevator Boutique™ delivers a curated range of exclusive home elevator systems, developed in collaboration with leading Italian manufacturers.

Reliable Supply Chain

We specify and install only proven elevator systems, selected to ensure consistency and long-term performance across every project:

  • Elevator lifespan, design integrity, and build quality
  • Ongoing access to parts, materials, and components
  • Structured technical training, installation, and servicing
  • Full compliance with safety standards and regulatory approvals

Consistency and Control

At this level, certainty matters. What is specified at the outset is what you can expect to be delivered.

Given the nature of the industry, lead times can be extended, and while rare, supply chain changes can occur.

Where any change materially impacts appearance, performance, or country of manufacture, Elevator Boutique™ will notify you in writing and seek approval prior to production.

This is extremely uncommon. It has only occurred twice over several decades. When it does, it is managed directly and transparently.

We are finding more clients are wanting to build an elevator shaft at the build stage and installing the lift later.
The benefits include:

  • Cutting down on the building works and costs
  • Future-proofing your home
  • Removing the need for involving an engineer when installing the elevator.

Whether overlooking a panoramic view or positioned within the centre of the home, many clients value the ability to remain connected to their space while travelling in their private elevator.

Elevator Boutique™ offers a full range of glass shaft options in both steel and aluminium. In addition, many projects incorporate fully custom-built glass shafts, designed and constructed by the builder to achieve a seamless, architectural finish.

With our E series, we can supply the steel structural shaft components without any cladding. This assists in construction by removing the need to build a load-bearing shaft.

Once we have constructed our shaft structure, your builder will need to provide cladding on all four sides for safety purposes – this cladding will need to be both non-removable and non-penetrable.

Our self-supporting structure is available in a galvanised steel finish, not powder-coated, which allows for quick installation.

Many clients prefer an elevator that integrates seamlessly into the home, aligning with the surrounding architecture and interior finishes.

This is typically achieved by builders through custom door cladding, concealed frames, and matching wall treatments, allowing the elevator to blend discreetly into the space while maintaining full functionality.

Difference drive types

The differences between drive systems are often misunderstood.

Too often, recommendations are driven by what a supplier offers, not what is best suited to the project.

Hydraulic drive systems remain one of the most established and proven solutions for residential elevators. Where hydraulic systems are dismissed, it is often due to limitations in a provider’s offering or capability, rather than the suitability of the system itself.

They have been used extensively for over 30 years in low-rise, private residential applications, where reliability, smooth operation, and consistency are key.

Designed for Residential Use

In a private home environment, where usage is under 30 times an hour, hydraulic systems are ideal. They are stable, predictable, and well-suited to this type of application.

Understanding Hydraulic Systems

The hydraulic system operates as a sealed unit. Oil is contained within the system, similar to a vehicle’s braking system, and is circulated as required to raise and lower the elevator.

In residential use, the system operates well within safe temperature ranges. As a result, there is no oil smell.

Temperature sensors and built-in protections ensure the system remains within operating limits at all times.

Proven Performance

Elevator Boutique™ has delivered and installed more than $1/2 BILLION! (> $500,000,000) of hydraulic elevator systems in the last 24 years. These systems continue to perform reliably across a wide range of residential projects.

For clients on a maintenance subscription plan, should any issue arise, it is addressed directly as part of our ongoing commitment to long-term performance.

The Critical safety feature

Safety. Built In. Non-Negotiable.

At Elevator Boutique™, safety is fundamental. It is not an added feature or an afterthought. It is built into every system from the outset.

Our elevators incorporate a comprehensive range of safety systems, each designed to protect, perform, and operate reliably in real-world residential environments.

We encourage every client to experience these features firsthand during a showroom visit.

Engineered for Residential Reality

Home elevators operate in private, secured environments where external access can be limited.

Unlike public elevators, emergency response is not always immediate. This makes built-in safety systems essential, not optional.

Integrated Safety Systems Include

  • In-cabin self-rescue functionality
  • Controlled lowering during power outages
  • Emergency communication systems
  • Access from the machine space
  • Multiple redundant safety protections

Each system serves a specific purpose. Together, they create a complete safety framework.

Not All Elevators Are Equal

The difference is not always visible, but it is critical.

At this level, safety, reliability, and system design must be considered together. Choosing the right system ensures confidence not just on day one, but long into the future

How It Works

In the event of a minor interruption, the battery-backed system allows for safe, independent exit.

Once the system confirms all doors are securely locked, the passenger presses and holds two buttons. The elevator then travels smoothly to the nearest floor and unlocks for a safe and controlled exit.

Designed for Residential Reality

This feature was introduced to address a fundamental difference between residential and public elevators.

In a private home, access from the outside may be restricted. Doors may be locked, and immediate external assistance is not always available.

For this reason, relying solely on automatic lowering systems is not always sufficient. The ability to safely exit independently provides an additional layer of control and reassurance.

Proven and Compliant

This self-rescue device was engineered by Lift Shop in 2007. Elevator Boutique, as the American counterpart to Lift Shop, incorporates this proven technology into its residential elevators. In-cabin self-rescue has now been in use for many years and is fully compliant with applicable safety standards in approved regions.

It has been independently reviewed and is designed to operate safely within the parameters of residential elevator use.

Why It Matters

In a residential setting, safety is not just about stopping the elevator. It is about ensuring you can exit safely, without delay.

This is the difference between waiting for assistance and maintaining control of the situation.

Pricing varies based on the system selected, the number of levels, and the level of finish.

We offer a standard elevator range, with the option to upgrade to premium and ultra-luxury specifications. Additional customisation, including finishes, configurations, and layout requirements, will influence the overall investment.

Additional Expenses: Remember that the lift’s cost is just one part of the overall expense. You should also allocate funds for finishing work around the lift and any necessary building works.
