Inside a $65,000,000 Beverly Hills mansion

Elevator Boutique installed the home elevator in one of the newest estates in Trousdale, Beverly Hills, listed at $65,000,000. The cabin pairs Italian Skinplate walls with a clear glass rear wall, and the doors close flush in the same finish.

The house sits in Trousdale Estates with about 18,000 sq ft of living space, seven bedrooms and a lower level that holds a 2,000-bottle wine cellar, a wellness center, a gym and a home theater. A home with that much to offer below ground needs an easy way down. The elevator brings the cellar and the screening room as close as the kitchen, and it does it with the same restraint as the rest of the architecture.

A home where every detail is on show

This house was built to be seen. The tour opens on a $250,000 tree, and the rest of the house keeps that standard: stone, glass and long views over Los Angeles.

An elevator in a house like this cannot look like equipment. It has to sit inside the architecture with the same restraint as the joinery around it.

The elevator

Skinplate and glass, nothing else

The cabin side walls, ceiling and car doors are Italian Skinplate, a fine textured steel with a soft matte finish. The rear wall is clear glass, so light passes through the cabin.

There is no handrail and no clutter. The control panel sits flush and vertical, the phone is flush with black buttons, and the floor was finished by the builder to match the house.

SafetyIn Cabin Self Rescue

Safety you never see

The elevator carries In Cabin Self Rescue, battery backup and self-leveling at every stop. If the power fails, the cabin lowers itself and the doors open. Nobody waits for a technician.

The hoistway was framed in timber by the builder to our engineering drawings, with a shallow 5.9 in pit.

Why it works

Skinplate walls, doors and ceiling give the cabin one calm surface.
